As India military professionals continue with their focus on jointness, a Tri Service All-Women Crew trained together in the Arabian Sea. These sailors, soldiers and Air Warriors are preparing to battle the waves when the set sail to wrest the honours in the Around-the-World Sailing Expedition.
The Tri-Services all-women crew completed a round of training for challenging around-the-world blue water sailing competition. The training expedition is culminating tomorrow with a rigorous voyage from Mumbai to Lakshadweep and back.
The crew, comprising 12 valiant women officers from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, embarked on this journey under the banner of the Army Adventure Wing and the Army Aqua Nodal Centre of the College of Military Engineering.
Their voyage, which is a precursor to a much more arduous global circumnavigation scheduled for September 2024, spanned over 27 days and tested their endurance and skills in some of the most demanding maritime conditions.
During their expedition, the women warriors navigated through varying wind conditions, sweltering heat, and choppy waters, showcasing not only their physical prowess but also their mental fortitude and teamwork. The journey was broken down into four legs, each presenting unique challenges and learning opportunities for the crew, ultimately strengthening their capabilities for the upcoming global circumnavigation.
This expedition is also about breaking cultural and gender barriers. The initiative celebrates ‘Nari Shakti’ and emphasizes the importance of inclusivity and diversity.
As the team prepares for their global journey in the coming months, their story is already inspiring many across the nation and the world. The resilience and determination that these women have already displayed, is enough to crack age old barriers, while forging new pathways.
This historic journey not only exemplifies the spirit of adventure but also underscores the significance of fostering inclusivity and diversity in the maritime and, especially, military domains.
The flagging-in ceremony is to be held at Marve, Mumbai, and is expected to be a grand affair, celebrating the achievements of these courageous women sailors, who have collectively logged more than 6000NM of nautical training.
The crew is all set to make its mark and post a significant milestone in India’s military history as they prove their mettle in the Around-the-World Sailing event.
